Specs For Discount Road Bikes
If you are new to cycling, there is no need to go out and buy a several thousand dollar bicycle right from the get go. It makes more sense to start with entry level Discount Road Bikes, and, as your ability increases, progress to a more sophisticated models. That being said, it also does not make sense to waste money on a bicycle that is going to fall apart after the first 100 miles on the road.
Here are two Discount Road Bikes made by well known manufacturers. Although the look and feel of a bike is certainly important, only the major specifications are given in order to provide comparisons.
The Denali 700c is manufactured by GMC and retails for approximately $200. It has 21 speeds and weighs 29 pounds. The aluminum 7005 straight gauge frame supports a GMC Series 7000 steel fork. This bike has a Prowheel Alloy 335P6 28/38/48 170mm crankset. It has Kenda 700x28c tires and Promax 501A Alloy Caliper brakes. It includes Shimano Reve SIS L2/R7 shifters and a Cionlli saddle.

A close comparison is the Tuono is manufactured by Vilano and retails for approximately $300. It also has 21 speeds, but weighs only 24 pounds. The 6061 Double Butted Aluminum frame supports a Chromoly steel 700c fork. This bike has a Tec9 170mm forged alloy 50/40/30 crankset. It has 700x25c tires and Promax brakes. It includes Shimano A050 shifters and a Vader saddle. Although both of these are considered traditional entry-level Discount Road Bikes, there are also road bikes available that look more like a mountain bike with straight handlebars. Also, road bikes will generally fit a man or a woman, but there are women's specific bikes that have a top tube that is shorter. Discount Road Bikes are also best purchased from a professional bike shop so that a discount purchase does not result in a cheap bike. Additionally, a bike shop will be able to offer closeout prices on road bikes as they turn over their stock for newer models. Most bike shops will also permit test rides so that comparisons can be made before making a purchase. |
